Student Workbook
OVERVIEW
In the research field, researchers need to keep a transparent record of their work. Therefore, as part of standard practice, you are tasked to keep a record of your mini-project process.
While conducting a mini-project, which has been broken down into small steps in this unit workbook, students are tasked with completing and keeping a record of every in-class and take-home activity to ensure they can complete assessments in a timely and professional manner.
Please be aware that students are expected to bring their workbook to class every week, while the previous tasks have already been completed.
Week 7 – Developing Interview Questions
- Restate your research question here:
- What are the main keywords this research question explores?
- Following the process of stepping into the participant’s world, the first interview question should be about how they define the concept in their world.
So, use your own words to come up with the first interview question:
A.
Now, begin developing at least two questions that cover the other keywords in your research question.
B.
C.
As the final step in collecting data, we conclude our conversation by inviting participants to share any additional information. Use your own words and come up with a friendly closing question.
D.
- Now, we can add some probes to the list of interview questions to ensure we are prepared to listen to our participants actively.
Question A:

Question B:

Question C:

Question D:
- Now pair up with your research buddy and ask them the interview questions. It helps us ensure that the questions are easy to understand and cover everything we need to know for the research question.
Week 8 – Conducting an Interview
- While reviewing and planning your interview, kindly answer the following questions:
A: Who is going to participate in your research study? What sort of characteristics should they have (~ inclusion criteria)?
B: How are you going to recruit that participant (~ recruitment process)?
C: What are the documents involved in this process (~ screening and data collection process)?
D: Is there any specific concern regarding the recruitment or interview process?
- Now, open the “interview Forms Template” file on Moodle – Week 8 and adjust these forms based on your research study. To ensure you have included all the required documents, check the boxes in the table below.
| Files | Completed | Not Applicable |
| Participant Information Statement Form | ||
| Sociodemographic Form | ||
| Interview Questions Form | ||
| Consent Form | ||
| Well-being Form (if needed) |
- Now it is time to use pre-, during, and post-interview instructions and your prepared document to interview with your research buddy. Please follow your pre-planned protocol and formally invite them to a 10- to 15-minute interview. Please set a time and date today to have enough time to conduct, record, and transcribe your interview.
Week 8 – Research Implementation
Now it is time to assemble all the parts of the research implementation steps. Open the Assessment 2 Guide under week 8 and review the sections. For your information, the guide has already been prepared following the APA 7 format, so make sure to include all headings and subheadings and use a similar format for your submission.
Good luck with your submission 😊
