Total marks: 30%
Word count: 500 words for the section A – Analysis
Section B – 1500 – 2000 words for 15 long answers questions
Due date: Sunday of Week 5
a) Description
The goal of this assessment is to test your understanding of some fundamental concepts
and terms used in welfare law, and your capacity to apply these concepts to practical
scenarios involving clients.
b) Format
Students are required to analyse a series of questions involving one case study to test
understanding and application of the concepts and issues addressed in the readings,
lectures and tutorials from Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4.
This case study, questions and instructions contained in the file will be available three weeks
before the due date.
Note
Jurisdiction-specific context
Your response to the scenarios and circumstances involved in this case study may also
require you to undertake research to identify and apply the framework of services and
arrangements involving the departmental, legislative, court, tribunal and administrative
structures that operate in and are applicable to a specific jurisdiction (ie State or Territory in
which you reside.2
Research literature
Your answers must be based on a review of the literature and should include at least three
primary academic references, ie peer-reviewed (scholarly) journal articles or book chapters.
By developing a jurisdiction-specific approach, this has broader relevance and also is applicable to placements
and other client relevant contexts.
Do not rely upon non-academic and other web-based secondary references as these do
not constitute academic references for the purpose of your assignment, which if relied
upon for theoretical support, may mean you have NOT met the requirements of the
assessment.
Referencing
You must use APA 7 referencing.
References: You must include a references section in your assessment and
acknowledge any sources that you use, including all web-based sources.
Table of legislation: Any legislation (ie Acts and regulations) that may have been
cited should be listed separately in a Table of legislation (follows References).

    Part 2: Long-Answer Questions
    Question Overview:
    You are required to answer 15 long-answer questions that explore concepts covered in
    Weeks 1–4. These questions focus on welfare law principles, ethical decision-making, and
    the integration of statutory and common law into human services practices.
    Tasks:
    Provide detailed responses to each question.
     Include references to case law, legislation, and ethical frameworks where
    appropriate.
     Demonstrate your ability to critically analyze and apply theoretical knowledge to
    practical scenarios.
    Word Limit: Approximately 100–200 words per question.
    Formatting Guidelines
    Use 12-point Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing, and standard margins.
    Include a title page with your name, student ID, assessment title, and submission date.
    Use headings and subheadings to organize your responses.
    Cite all references using the APA 7th Edition format.
